Bombay Veterinary
College:
The year 1886 was the year of historical significance for the animal world in Asia
in general and in our country in particular. On 2nd August, 1886 an Institution
devoted to animal welfare, lessening the pain and suffering of the animal,
advancing Veterinary and Animal Science and also increasing the health and
welfare of the animals was born at the Parel college in Mumbai. This also marked
the dawn of the noblest of the noble profession in India. The Bombay Veterinary
College celebrated its Centenary during the year 1985-86.
The Bombay Veterinary College was initially offering the Diploma leading to
G.B.V.C. In the year 1945, the college was affiliated to Bombay University for
the award of B.Sc.(Vet.) degree with inclusion of clinical departments. In 1958,
the degree was changed from B.Sc.(Vet.) to B.V.Sc. The under-graduate syllabus
underwent a further modification in 1963 and the degree of B.V.Sc. was changed
to B.V.Sc.& A.H. The Internship training programme of six months duration
was started in the year 1981-82. Since 1996 the common syllabus formed by the
Veterinary Council of India (VCI) has been accepted and with this, the course is
further extended to a total period of five years including six months'
Internship training program.
In 1960, the post-graduate courses leading to Master's degree (M.V.Sc.) were
introduced. The post-graduate teaching programme was further strengthened by
introduction of Doctoral degree (Ph.D.) by research. In 1972, the college was
affiliated to the Konkan Krishi Vidyapeeth. In 1976, two departments Food
Hygiene & Public Health and Poultry Science were established. Since 1996 the
common syllabus formed by the Veterinary Council of India has been accepted and
with this the course is further extended to a total period of five years
including six months' Internship training program. Thereafter in November 2000,
the Bombay Veterinary College became a constituent unit of the Maharashtra
Animal & Fishery Sciences University, Nagpur.

Veterinary College:
The college was established on 1st July 1958. In the first year of the college there
were only 3 departments viz. Anatomy, Physiology and Animal Husbandry and one
common laboratories and only one classroom of 39 boys and 1 girl admitted. There
were only 8 teachers including the principals.
The ground floor was ready in 1966 and occupied 1967.
The full-fledged college building was completed and occupied in 1971. The hostel
constructed in the year 1964 and college Auditorium constructed in the year
1979. The Girls Hostel was constructed in the year 1998. The college possess
194.15 hectares of land, Cattle Breeding Farm, Poultry Farm and Goat Unit.
College of Animal and
Veterinary Sciences, Parbhani:
This college was established on 1st July 1958. Faculty of Veterinary
Sciences started functioning w.e.f. 8.5.1972.The college offers five years'
degree programme after 10 school education. The syllabus is as per the national
pattern of VETERINARY COUNCIL OF INDIA.
The postgraduate education started w.e.f.1976 and is being offered in 13
disciplines
Krantisingh Nana Patil Veterinary
College, Shirval, Dist. Satara:
Adequate
information is not yet available on this Veterinary College. It will be put up
as soon as it is available.
College of Animal and Veterinary
Sciences, Udgir, Dist. Latur: The
college was established on 17th September 1987. The college is
established at the sprawling 345 ha. of land of Deoni Cattle Breeding Farm
transferred by Govt. of Maharashtra.
Post Graduate Institute, Akola
College of Dairy Technology, Warud, Tal. Pusad, Dist. Yavatmal
In addition to the above colleges and institutions,
