Sven

Sven is an Interactive Multimedia Keyboard Daemon (key grabber in other words) for Linux. It can grab key combinations from your running system and process them to execute the corresponding command or action set by you. If your new keyboard's multimedia keys don't work with Linux, this software can help you to configure them to do whatever you please. After it starts up, it resides as an icon in the GNOME system tray and on your desktop (see the part marked Sven Desktop Icon in picture). By clicking on these icons, you can fire up the configuration window, from where you can set/change options such as key associations, on-screen display (appears when sven grabs a key), system tray / desktop icon preferences, and so on. Sven is also extensible through plugins.

    Merits:
  • Simple and intuitive
  • Easy to install and use
  • Extensible through plugins
    Demerits:
  • None that I could think of
