NoteCase is a simple note manager program. It helps you to take notes and keep them organized. It can save your notes into a document (extension NCD) and you can have a different set of notes in each document. It is very handy and useful.
Merits:

Demerits:
- Doesn't have text formatting support (not really a problem)

Notemeister is a simple but powerful and highly intuitive note manager. It stores your notes as nodes in an XML document which resides in a hidden directory in your home directory (usually ~/.notemeister/notemeister.xml). It has a little support for font formatting which makes important text in your notes stand out.
Merits:
- Powerful and configurable
- Has text formatting support
- Easy to use and install
Demerits
- May become unstable (sometimes) if the size of your note file increases
